In my travels I've encountered people from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell people you're from Colorado, the first words they say are Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was Denver's top 10 hit following a performance with a smaller folk groups. It was co-written and recorded by Bill Danoff. Danoff had originally written the tune using Johnny Cash's songs with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver knew from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it was going to be an instant hit. Just a few days after singing to an enthusiastic crowd in Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
